Looking for housing in Durham has been the weirdest experience. I’ve searched through the Duke community housing website as well as craigslist and I’ve just found a bunch of weirdos who want roommates. No, seriously. I found a post looking for an additional roommate who knows how to build a compost pile (are you kidding?!) and another post looking for a roommate who is into fire parties (like flamethrowing?). The majority of people who have posted are people who are vegetarians/vegans or who are extremely green (saving-the-environment type of people). Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to kill the environment, but I am a fan of meat and I do like to drive a car around. I’ve sent out over 30 emails and I haven’t had any luck finding any “normal” people to live with this coming fall. Hopefully my luck turns around soon.
